Sunshine and Albion works for Melbourne Airport Rail out to market

Back to Newsfeed

Melbourne Airport Rail is another step closer to meeting our target of starting construction next year, with a first works package now out to market.

Expressions of interest (EOI) are now open for pre-qualified contractors to submit their initial proposals to deliver works around Sunshine and Albion, including upgrades in and around Sunshine and Albion stations and new twin tracks dedicated to airport services.

At Sunshine Station, major works will almost double the station footprint and double the number of lifts available, including a new accessible pedestrian concourse, extra ticketing gates and weather-protected platform extensions to make transfers between services easier.

Track work in the area includes realigning some existing tracks and building a less-than-2km section of elevated rail between Sunshine and the start of the Albion-Jacana corridor, enabling a new forecourt area near Albion Station in addition to extra bike cages and a new shared-use path.

EOIs are an important step in a multi-staged process that will help us to find the best people for the job and land on the final design for Melbourne Airport Rail works in the Sunshine and Albion area.

We’ll soon be inviting public feedback on key elements of the project between Sunshine and the Western Ring Road (M80), including more concept designs, as part of the next phase of engagement.
